Eternal Security in the Unbreakable Love of God (Daily Devotional 10/22)
Song of Solomon 8:6-7 (KJV)
6 Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.
7 Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.
Many people are worried about their eternal salvation. Thankfully God recorded these beautiful words in the bible. These verses aren’t just about human love, they symbolize the divine love of God for His people, a love that cannot be broken, quenched, or washed away. In the same way, our salvation, secured through Jesus Christ, is as unshakable as this love.
When verse 6 says, "Set me as a seal upon thine heart," it speaks to a permanent mark, almost like a tattoo on God's heart. A seal in ancient times represented ownership, security, and protection. When God sets His seal upon us, it is a declaration that we are His forever.
Nothing can break that seal of eternal security.
We are sealed in God’s love, and our salvation cannot be lost or stolen. "For love is strong as death," the passage continues. Death is final and unyielding, but God’s love is just as powerful and lasting. Once we are saved, nothing can separate us from the love of God. This love is so strong, it withstands even the grave. The moment we believe in Jesus, we are secured in an eternal relationship with Him that even death or sin cannot undo it.
The fire of God’s love, as described in Song of Solomon, is a flame that can never be extinguished.
7 "Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it." Just as floods and waters cannot extinguish the love of God, nothing in life can diminish His love for us or undo the salvation He has given. When trials, failures, or even doubts flood our lives, God’s love remains as strong as ever.
The enemy often tries to convince us that we’ve fallen too far, that we’ve lost God’s love or our salvation. But the truth is, once you’re saved, you’re secure forever. Jesus paid the full price for your salvation, and no amount of failures or floods can undo what He has already accomplished. You are sealed in God’s love, and nothing can change that. God’s love for us is not based on our performance, obedience, or worthiness. It’s based on His character and the sacrifice of Jesus. Once we’ve accepted Christ, we are sealed with His Spirit and marked as His own forever.
We cannot lose our salvation because it was never dependent on us. It has always been dependent on Jesus.
God has sealed you with His Spirit, guaranteeing your eternal inheritance. I hope that we can believe that our future is sure because our salvation is secure.
